Press TV has conducted an interview with Mohammad Marandi, professor at University of Tehran in Tehran, and Patrick Basham, founding director of Democracy Institute in Chicago, to discuss Saudi Arabia’s mismanagement of the recent deadly crush during the Hajj rituals.
Marandi states that this tragedy is a sign of “Saudi incompetence”, adding that the “sheer arrogance” in which the Saudi regime behaves in this particular case is very disturbing.
He also maintains the Saudis are showing disregard for human life “basically because they are Wahhabi and they are like Daesh and the al-Nusra Front in their attitudes toward people.”
Marandi further notes that the Saudi regime is in a very difficult situation both at home and abroad and there is deep concern in the West that the new Saudi regime - the new King and his son –"are ineffective in running the country."
The academic goes on to say that it will be best for the Saudis to change their policy. “If they continue to abuse the Iranian people and the Iranian pilgrims, they will definitely lose in a devastating way in any confrontation with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he says.
Basham, for his part, believes the Saudis are acting in an “ineffective way” and the crisis management performance of the whole tragedy has been very poor.
